the east shore freeway. >> good morning. we are finally getting a break. just about 20 minutes ago it was rainy and that turned into a drizzle. there is still a little bit of a sheen on the road. take it easy. it is slick out there. >> we are expecting conditions to be worse tomorrow morning. here is more on the forecast with james fletcher. >> good morning. a quick

look at the bay bridge approach. here is what we are expecting over the course of the day. cool as you head out the door. temperatures in the upper fifties and low 60s. this afternoon, mostly cloudy. a dry afternoon. that changes this evening. we are looking for steady rain to fall heavy at times, particularly tomorrow morning. right now the rain is to the east. today will be a break in the rain to enjoy some dry weather and let the ground soak up what came down yesterday. temperatures will not warm up that much. upper 60's and low 70's. oakland at 66 and antioch as 72. navato at 65. the same for downtown san francisco. as a look forward to what is coming

tomorrow, the system is in the pacific and coming our way. a lot of cold air associated with it. 7:00 p.m. is when the rain will begin. the north they will experience a light rain and that will move to san francisco by 9:00 p.m. and bay area wide by 10:00 p.m.. intense rain coming in past that point. at 1:00 a.m. on wednesday, that is when we expect a moderate- heavy rain. the front will continue pushing it through and be out of our here by 4:00 a.m.. that is the steady rain that is gone. then we will be left with scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout wednesday. that does include your evening commute at 5:00 p.m. where we expect light- more rain. here is your forecast. conditions will dry up as we head into thursday. this system will take us into thursday at noon. things will dry out and this slowly warm-up as

we had to saturday and sunday. let's get an update on traffic. >> it took a while. our potential hot spots became realized on the peninsula. we have had a couple of accidents that we have been tracking. one southbound and 1 northbound. both have backed up the right. the southbound traffic is worst leading frothe university ave. it is adding eight-nine minutes to the southbound 101 drive time. northbound traffic is slow 5-6 mi. just passed shoreline. if you want to avoid them use middlefield, el camino or interstate 280. the backups are not so severe that if you have the extra eight minutes or so, you will be able to get through it pretty quickly. the good news is the accidents have been cleared from the traffic lanes of the back of could continue to grow for a

while. let's get to a bridge check. on the bay bridge you'll see the ride still looks good. a 80-west grande is where the back up is. the backup is 15 minutes from the macarthur maze, better from the nimitz. on the san mateo bridge is an easy ride, 15 minutes from end to end. that is 15 minutes getting out of a word from the 92-880 interchange to foster city blvd.. your ride on the golden gate is still good. no big delays for marin county. in the east bay, as we head back to the traffic maps, we are picking up some slowing leading into sunol on 680 southbound toward the four exit and westbound 580 continues to slow. it is still a good ride from dublin to castro valley for the westbound 580 commute. >> we are keeping our eyes

on wall street after a big sell-off yesterday. we are seeing another big drop today. the dow is down 230 points. concerns about what is happening in greece, as to whether or not they will receive the next round of bailout funds. the dow is at 10,417. that is to thousand 300 points lower than it was at the end of july. >> amanda knox is homeward bound. the 24 year-old left frorome and is supposed to land today in washington d.c. after an italian appeals court dramatically overturned her conviction for assaulting and killing her british roommate back in 2007. the family of kurtcher spoke out this morning.

go back to the curved back side. the square shape of the iphone 4 has gone bad reviews. it will be faster and feature the a5 processor chip and much better voice control features. it is suspected that sprint will be the third carrier on top of at&t in verizon. there are rumors that steve jobs will be in attendance but nothing is confirmed. >> live pictures into the newsroom of the backpack that caused a bomb scare in times square. investigators are looking at it right now. the green backpack on the ground was found on the bus that you see right here. this happened on seventh avenue between forty ninth and fiftieth in times square, new york city. the entire area was shut down to traffic and pedestrians. police are investigating a suspicious package. the unattended backpack was found on a bus. the bomb

texas to rally support for his jobs bill and raise money for his reelection campaign. obamas will appear at a community

college in mesquite, texas. he says his bill will help keep teachers and classrooms can help to modernize schools. he is pushing congress to pass the entire jobs bill but republican lawmakers say they only want to vote on proposals in which they agree. the president will also attend to different reelection events. >> jury selection in the trial of a nigerian man accused of trying to detonate an explosive device in his underwear on board an airplane. he was the underwear bomber, this happened christmas day in 2009 on a flight to detroit. there is the suspect. he said that he will represent himself in this trial. the trial is set to begin next week. he has pleaded not guilty. are back with more and a couple of minutes. let's take a live look outside of san francisco. you can see the clouds and a little bit

seeing rain from yesterday's system. there is rain on the way. as we look towards the pacific, you concede this system coming in. we will see temperatures fall and the rain falling in the north bay at 7:00 p.m. at the earliest. light rain at that point. by 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., widespread rain. to the north, heavier rain on the way. that is the heart of the front as it begins to push through. you'll see more clearly in the 1:00 a.m. hour. moderate-heavy rain coming to the heart of the bay and will continue to track its way across the bay dumping quite a bit of rain until 4:00 a.m.. that is when we expect the heaviest of the front to push through. behind it, cold air. that will set the scene for scattered showers on wednesday and the possibility of thunderstorms. be ready for

an on-again, off-again wet wednesday. here is a quick look at temperatures this afternoon. pretty similar to yesterday. here is a look at temperatures in the north bay. here is a quick look at your 7 day around the bay. everyone is keeping an eye on the weekend for fleetweek. thursday afternoon we will probably see the last bits of this storm pass us by. we will start warming up for friday, saturday and sunday for those who want to catch of the blue angels. if you cannot make it to the city, tune into kron 4, we will have a one-hour special on saturday to watch the blue angels. let's get a check on traffic.

>> 101 in both directions but especially southbound, the lanes were blocked by an injury accident occurring near university ave. it is slow from the bayfront expressway nearly from woodside road and highway 84 southbound. northbound traffic heading into mountain view is heavy because of an accident that occurred at shoreline. the southbound ride time, added an extra 8-12 minutes. to 80 would make a great alternate. here is a bridge check as we look at the bay bridge ride. westbound of the traffic is backed up to west grand ave. in 18 minute drive time. even the 80 approach is slow. probably a better bet to the bay bridge. the san mateo bridge ride is continuing to move well. a 14 minute drive time to foster city blvd.. 101

and 92 interchange look good. marin county is a problem free from marin across the golden gate bridge. in the south bay, 101 northbound, we start to see its of a pattern emerging, the drive time has grown to about 18 minutes heading up from the capitol expressway to the montague expressway. 85 is low just past the 17 interchange. that is the normal pattern. we also see a little heavy traffic around the 17 interchange on 280 northbound. north bay traffic is heaviest on highway 37 near ignacio. a check in the east bay, interstate 80 at al gore tell drive heading down past panel. the ride towards also read a richmond is not

released report by insight. computing how american families live should not be based solely on the incumbent, the station also take into account local costs which is housing, job care and health care. a family of four is considered for if they make less than $22,000 a year. insight points out that family would need much more than that to live in the bay area if you factor in local costs. to parents with two young children need more than $69,000 annually in the east bay just to get by. 82,000 and san mateo county and 84,000 in santa clara county. the u.s. census bureau is expected to release own party estimates later this year. >> when you look at those numbers it is so interesting, other people in parts of thosthe country would be saying that is a huge difference. >> it is all relative.

are. at mt. tam, beautiful blue skies. the satellite view shows us a lot of cloud cover over the bay. bids and pieces of rain near chico. we are doing ok. the cloud cover is causing delays at sfo. it will more than an hour. you can see the next storm system in the pacific. that storm will take most of the day to get into our area. it will hit the north bay first. light rain by 7:00 p.m.. then, it will move south and east as we progress through the evening. 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. widespread rain throughout the bay and it will gradually increase in intensity. by 1:00 a.m., a big bit of moderate-heavy rain moving through. you can watch out line as it continues to progress until 4:00 a.m.. that is the heaviest of the rain weaving us by 4:00 a.m., on wednesday, on-again, off- again pop up showers and

had two accidents heading towards each other. the southbound crash appears to be out of the lanes now the traffic is slow from 84 adding about 12 minutes to drive into the northbound right has backed up more beyond to 37 leading up towards shoreline boulevard. that has added an extra eight minutes to the northbound truck time. you can avoid it all by using interstate 280, el camino or middlefield road. to 80 is a great choice up and down the peninsula. the bay bridge, a big back up. in 18 minute drive time but steadily increasing. it will not be long until we are back to the macarthur maze on westbound 580. this >> tale bridge is an easy trip across the span. there are no problems westbound towards foster city. the golden gate bridge looks smooth. right now there are

no delays for southbound 101. here is a check in the east bay. the upper east shore freeway, interstate 80 west found, there is not as much red on the map as usual but there is a longer a string of yellow sensors, so the drive times are about the same. 680 getting very heavy for the ride out of martina's soft into the san ramon valley. the 580 ride westbound continues to be slow coming out of the altemont through livermore and even the 680 ride gets heavier southbound heading towards the sunol grade. >> the dow was off 194. concerns of the european debt process. ben bernanke is testifying in front of congress right now saying that the federal reserve is prepared to take steps to help the economy recover.

>> good morning, we are starting this hour with a triple live look at conditions clouding up around the bay. on the left, the golden gate bridge. on the right, the approach to the bay bridge which has also has clouds around it. you can see some glistening on the roadway on 1 013 san rafael, the right hand corner, we are looking for breaks in the rain and even some sunshine, but it looks like we have to wait for that. >> let's check on conditions outside. jackie sissel is near 101 and 580

in marin. >> a much better commute for the morning commute than it was last night in the north bay. we are starting to see patches of clearing in the north bay. the last time we saw any signal to iran was around 4:00 a.m.. do not put away your umbrellas just yet. >> let's find out about the forecast in the weather center. >> the wet pavement was not in san rafael, but we do have a little bit of what pavement. >> everything will get wet later today. here is a satellite shot. look at the size of that system. >> but it will not hit until tomorrow? >> tonight around 7:00 p.m.. the north bay may very well get wet beginning with light rain that will intensify over night. the thing with this system, the heaviest and most steady

we are starting of cool this morning and we will end on a cold of this afternoon with highs in the upper 60s and low 70's. we will see that for most of the bay. here is your 7 day forecast. the reign will end just in time for fleetweek. >> we are tracking some hot spots around the bay area. we have watched the traffic really start to slow down perhaps because of the weather and because of some minor incidents reported. in the east bay, interstate 80 is our first hot spot. this westbound drive, a minor accident near willow. the hercules-berkeley drive time should be 27 minutes is now running 52 minutes. that is

nearly twice the normal drive. there are is no good alternate. take a look as 68 southbound, it is jammed up as well. that is nearly a 30 minute drive time from highway 4 to 24. this short stretch will take nearly half an hour. that is three times the normal commute. it should take only 11 minutes. 101 is a mess. it basically starts here. you will be in solid track all the way down to mountain view on 101 southbound. that is adding about 35 minutes your total time. 101 northbound is now solid out of the kyoodle valley all the way up to highway

a quick check on the bridges as we look at the the bridge toll plaza, is backed up to the macarthur maze. a 22 minute drive time this morning. the san mateo bridge is an easier trip with no delays across this band of heavy traffic at the 1 01-92 interchange. from marin, an easy trip with a lighter than normal traffic for 101 southbound as you head in from marin county. >> new this morning, all eyes on apple. apple fans have been waiting for the unveiling of the new-line fun. there is a media event set for 10:00 a.m. in cupertino at apple headquarters. details of the iphone 5 have been closely guarded but there's plenty of speculation. this is affected have a bigger screen, it is suspected to be thinner and lighter in have a curved back side of past
